1、形容词做后置定语

形容词做后置定语是一种非常普遍的现象，往往被后置的形容词不是一个单独的形容词，而是一个形容词短语。

句子的主干是，“there is something in the state...”,句子中的“a little absurd”后置于“something”，用来修饰“something”，可以翻译为“略显荒谬的事情”。

2、动词不定式做后置定语

动词不定式做定语时，一般表示尚未发生的动作，或者表示目的。

Scientific publishing has long been a licence to print money.(2020年英语一 阅读Text 2)

本句是一个简单句，主干是“Scientific publishing has long been a licence”，其后加了动词不定式“to print money”，对“a license”进行限定和修饰，可翻译为“印刷货币的许可证”。

3、介词短语做后置定语

介词加宾语构成介宾结构，做后置定语在意义上一般表示时间、地点、范围、类别、来源等语义关系。

4、动词现在分词做后置定语

现在分词做谓语动词一般表示主动意义，被修饰词于分词构成逻辑上的主谓关系。

5、动词过去分词左后置定语

动词的过去分析做后置定语时，表示被动意义，被修饰词与过去分词构成逻辑上的动宾关系。

本句主干为“the publisher needs only find a market”，其中的“With the content of papers secured for free”做整个句子的伴随状语，过去分词短语“secured for free”后置定语修饰“the contents of papers”,译为“免费获得的论文内容”。

6、定语从句

当一个句子做定语修饰中心词时被称作定语从句，定语从句是一种特殊的定语，放在被修饰词(即先行词)之后，因此也可以被称为是后置定语的一种。

Glasgow’s year as European capital of culture can certainly be seen as one of a complex series of factors that have turned the city into the powerhouse of art, music and theatre that it remains today.(2020年英语一 阅读理解 Text 1)

在句中，主干为Glasgow’s year can be seen as ...。其中的第一个that引导的定语从句对先行词factors进行修饰，第二个that引导定语从句对the powerhouse of art，music and theatre进行修饰。
